Rethinking Art with Craft Beton

The four internationally acclaimed designers worked behind Craft Betona are Somesh Singh, Iti Tyagi, Alan Saga and Miroslaw Baca.

A Fashion Design graduate from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Somesh is the former Director of Institute of Apparel Management (IAM). During his decade long tenure as Head of Apparel Department at National Institute of Design (NID), the college was awarded the Best Institute in Apparel Training for three consecutive years (2005-08).

He has been an eminent speaker at Retail Summit, Indo-American Textile Summit, Design Summit and Innovation Summit. He has many design patents to his credit - "Paunch Proof", "I-Shops", Fashion Clinics, and folding helmets.

Somesh holds the position of a Senior Advisor at Co-Creando, Italy. He has also been a mentor/consultant on design and innovation led strategies to leading companies including Arvind Mills, Future Group, Sintex Group of Companies, Kimaya, JJ Valaya, Rahul Mishra, ClimaGear, SID, and Alviero Martini, Italy.

Being an avid learner, he has pursued the “Innovation & Design” program from UCLA, Berkley, USA. His innovation and design breakthroughs have been covered by world media including TIME Magazine, New York Times, The Times (London), The Standard (China), The Times of India, Hindustan Times, USA Today, BBC, CNN, and Aaj Tak.

Iti Tyagi is the Founder of Craft Village. She has pursued Fashion Design from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Interior Design from KLC School of Design, London. In her work career that spans across two decades, Iti has designed for world renowned brands like Nieman Marcus, Pottery Barn, M&S, Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby, Bombay Company and many others.

She has been a significant voice on global platforms like Heimtextil Germany. She has also exhibited fashion & home products at Prêt-à-porter, Paris and Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF).

Her passion lies in Sustainable Development, Literature and Crafts. Therefore, Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI) and National Institute of Design (NID) empanelled her in the training and development of artisans in various clusters like Balakatti, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Firozabad and Kutch on metalwork, wood, glass, and embroidery. 

Iti has been honoured with the prestigious "Magicka Woman Achievers Award” in the year 2015.

Alan is a graduate in Industrial Design and Product Development from Centro de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (CEDIM), Mexico. He has worked on collaborative projects with popular brands, such as Heineken, PepsiCo, Alen, Gruma and Helvex. He has assisted great legends like Ariel Rojo (Mexico), Ezequiel Farca (Mexico), Gaston Bonaudi (Argentina), Marco Cimmatti (United States), Felix Hiller (Germany), Federico Hess (Brazil) and Enrico Gualersi (Italy).

His work reflects emotion, a great deal of functionality and impeccable design and styling aesthetics. 'The Weeping Women' and “Only Right Here” (Solo Aquí Tienes Derecho) by Alan symbolize a new era, where the designer's creation embodied a more humanitarian outlook to stop the bull fight in Mexico.

Alan is the winner of prestigious international awards, such as the Best Industrial Design in “Icons of Design 2013” by Architectural Digest Mexico, “Platinum A 'Design Award 2013-2014” (Italy) and his work is displayed in the permanent exhibition at the Museum of Design MOOD (Italy).

A graduate from Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Miroslaw Baca is a celebrated sculptor and has been the Faculty of Sculpture in universities world-over in the early 90's. The Government of Mexico awarded him a scholarship in 2003 and R. McNamara Foundation, USA, welcomed him as its resident artist in 2007. During 2009-2011, the Japanese Government awarded him a scholarship (MEXT) at Hokkaido University in Sapporo.

His individual and collective exhibitions include Lamar Dodd Art Centre of LaGrange College (Georgia, USA),  The 26th UBE Biennale, International Sculpture Competition (Ube City, Japan), Galerie Thuillier (MECENAVIE) (Paris, France), The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Monreale (Palermo, Italy), The 1st Biennale of Creativity (Palaexpo, Verona, Italy), Sapporo Clock Tower Gallery (Sapporo, Japan), Galería Marie-Louise Ferrari (Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico), Leeds City Art Gallery, Artist Open (Leeds, England), Jardín de las Esculturas, Xalapa (Veracruz, Mexico) and many more.

“The Royal British Society of Sculptors Bursary Award 2005” and The 1st Award Trinacria 2014, Tribute to Sicily are the prestigious international awards in his possession. Miroslaw Baca also co-authored the book- "Implied Movement: The Dance of Sculpture" with Tad Mike in the year 2015.

“Imagination can shape a material, Design can develop any function, Creativity may evoke originality but it is only the joy of making that can create any masterpiece” said Somesh Singh when asked about his experience on Craft Beton.
