Keeping all these in mind, The Foreign Correspondents' Club, New Delhi organised a hands-on workshop on Digital Media Content Development. Mr. P M Narayanan of German TV, Mr. Shajan C Kumar, Dr. Nithin Kalorth (both from Bennett University) and Ms. Malavika Sagar (Amity University) conducted the workshop.

"Mobile media and its impact on news and feature content creation and consumption will be the next communication revolution worldwide. Though the basics of content development techniques remain the same, the tools are going to change drastically", said Shajan C Kumar in his introduction to mobile content development techniques that works.

The need for training people on mobile content planning; identifying the capabilities and limitations of smartphone and its camera and making the smartphone ready for filming will become a challenge.

The third-party camera Apps are mushrooming. Learning the advanced controls of these Apps will only guarantee quality output. Megapixels are going to rule the digital media content development corridors for now!

Stability or your video really matters. It can be done without extra gear too. Well, it takes time to learn it and then if you are willing to practice it you can perfect it. You can also use stability gears. They are all available in the market. But then you need to select the one you really want to use while shooting on a smartphone.

Planning is very important for developing good quality digital content. Text, images, video and audio are to be mixed in real balancing propositions. First thing first! That is the story idea. Once it is decided, you need to work on the script. Next comes getting ready to take the shots. Keep the camera checklist; power and space; additional power sources and backup.

If you are going for an interview shoot, keep the 180 rule intact. Position the smartphones inside the 180-degree radius only. Set the zoom without pixelating the images.

Start with an establishing shot. For every master shot, keep multiple extra rolls with different camera positions and angels. This will really help you while editing the content. Build up the story in a way that makes all the difference to the end user of the content.

There are different kinds of video storytelling techniques. Mainly it can be reporter-led stories; character-led stories and trend-tracking stories. And brevity is the essence of success in all these cases! Well, it is very difficult to achieve that.

Lighting is very important in videography. You need to learn to measure lights. There are several Apps available now to help you do it. Also, learn to identify various lighting equipment. Use smartphone lenses as and when you require it. Wide angle, tele, fish-eye and macro lenses will be of use depending on your shot requirement.

Smartphones now come with great video editing tools. FilmoraGo, Vloggit, iMovie, KineMaster and Luma Fusion are popular among the Apps. Always do prepare a storyboard before getting to the editing mode. It really helps.

Audio is very important for quality video. People tend to skip the video once they find the audio bad. So, it is very important to understand the microphones by its origin and performance.
