Prof. V. C. Vivekanandan, Dean, School of Law, Bennett University Honored with SILF- MILAT Legal Education Innovation Award

Prof. V. C. Vivekanandan, Dean, School of Law, Bennett University received the SILF-MILAT Legal Education Innovation Award at the 9th Law Teachers Day Awards Function organized by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT) at Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. The event was presided over by Dr. Lalit Bhasin (President, SILF). Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon (Chairman, MILAT), Prof. Ranbir Singh (Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Delhi), Senior Advocate R.S. Suri (President, Supreme Court Bar Association), Jurists, Law Institutes and Law students attended the event.

The other awardees  includes Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher Award (Prof. Tahir Mahmood, Amity University), SILF-MILAT Institutional Excellence Award (Mar Gregorios College of Law, Trivandrum), Justice A.B. Rohatgi Jurist Award (Prof. T.K. Vishwanathan, Former Secretary General, Lok Sabha), SILF-MILAT South Asian Jurist Award ( Mohan Pieris-Former Chief Justice, Supreme Court, Sri Lanka and Prof.Tara Prasad Sapkota, Professor, Faculty of Law, Tribhuwan University, Nepal) and Best Law Students of the year award.

Prof. Vivekanandan formerly MHRD Chair Professor with NALSAR University, Hyderabad was chosen for his contribution in legal education for his innovative courses in IPR and Cyber laws. He was also the elected member of the Asia Pacific region for ALAC, a constituent of ICANN, which manages worldwide domain names.

He was also the official delegate of the Government of India in the negotiations of the SCCR at Geneva –WIPO during 2013-15. He is an acclaimed academician specializing in IPR, Internet Law, Entertainment Law and Artificial Intelligence and currently the Founder Dean of the School of Law at Bennett University. On receiving the award he said that ‘‘It is a motivating factor and I will aim to strive for an innovative curriculum and programmes at the Law School’’.

School of Law, Bennett University commenced its operation in July 2017 with the approval of the Bar Council of India offering the BBA LLB (Hons) five year integrated programme. The School will introduce the stream of BA LLB (Hons) in 2018. The School has a MoU with Cornell Law School, a premier Ivy League institution. Two Cornell faculty will be teaching in alternate semesters at the Law School and a reciprocal arrangement of Bennett faculty is part of the MoU. The students of Bennett Law school will also have an immersion programme in Cornell on a later date.
